Should Christians Party?

Two people asked me last week if I thought a Christian could go to a club.  I answered them from my heart, but then began to wonder why the question was posed.

I think it is safe to say that Christians are the most misunderstood group of people on this Earth.  Sadly enough, many of the confusion comes from the church itself.  Church people make up rules that are nowhere to be found in the Bible.  Many people, both in and out of the church, think that a Christian person is Christ.  Yes, we are called to be like Christ, but can only do so within our human capacity.  Christians are not perfect; only Jesus Christ was perfect.

A pastor once said that before he became a Christian, he used to enjoy stopping by a bar a few times a week to have a beer.  A man that was supposed to be "discipling" him told him that it was not a good idea to be seen at a bar.

I have been asked how could I go to a go-go if I was "supposed" to be saved.  I love go-go and have friends in the industry that I like to support.  Is it a sin to dance?  I say no.  Just because I'm at a show doesn't mean that I will be seen on stage taking it off.

Is it a sin to have a drink?  I say no.  Jesus drank wine.  Granted, he wasn't falling on his face drunk, either.  If my company is drinking, they don't pressure me to drink; they are happy to bring me a cup of water from the bar.

If I can have fun and conduct myself like a lady, why should someone tell me that I need to stay home?  Do I worry about being judged?  I don't give it a thought because the people at the clubs have treated me with nothing but respect.  I was with a well known musician and friends one night.  We were all sitting around before a show and he asked, "You don't smoke or drink, right?"  When I told him that he was correct, he nodded his head and said "well then, we're going to respect you and not do anything while you're here."  That proved to me that people are not always trying to take others down.

Christians are afraid of the world when we need not be.  True Christians have the power of the Holy Spirit guiding them to the light while being in the dark.  A word of advice for my Christian brothas and sistas:  all eyes are on you.  There are many people in the world that would love to see you fall.  It's all right to go out, but with each breath you take, remember who gives you life.  Like the Scripture says, "in all ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
