One Writer's Point of View

Sometimes I wonder if Terry McMillen went through this. Some people have asked me why I haven't written anything lately. Well, I do my thing because I love it and I take it seriously. The frustration that has taken place of an article comes from the fact that some people in the industry don't take anything seriously.

While many of you are musicians, writing was always the instrument that I had chosen. When Kato gave me the opportunity to express myself in TMOTTGoGo, I immediately thought of all the things and people I wanted to write about. Personal thoughts and social commentaries flowed off the page. Soon after, I did a few band interviews. After all, this is a go-go magazine, right?

I began to think "what next?" I put myself out there, trying to be where the action was, so I could make contacts and pursue two of my first loveswriting and go-go.  That's when the attention came.

People still don't know how to react to a white girl at a go-go; I have been called a groupie and someone even thought I was covering a show for the Washington Post.  Don't I wish!
I have always been about handling business, but the more people I met, the more they were not.
I have been in contact with too many band members, thinking we were going to set up an interview, only to get asked out. A staff member of the Post even mentioned that he did not know there was a magazine focused on go-go. I gave him my business card and wrote the URL for TMOTT on the back. He had comments the next day. Great! I thoughtuntil I read his email. Nice magazine...blasé, blasé...interesting...blasé, blasé...you wanna go get some drinks one night? What? I have never used TMOTTGoGo as a dating service; it's too bad others use their professions that way.

If someone approaches a musician about their band, trust meit's really about the band. If they say they are interested in doing an interview, it doesn't mean they are interested in going on a date. The writer is just trying to get the band and themselves some recognition.  That's why we do what we do
