Check Your Vision

In our human capacity, we tend to see only what's in front of us. Like the horse wearing blinders, we miss many things that are slightly out of view. Worry, frustration, and despair are basic human emotions, yet as believers in Jesus Christ we know that our lives have been set according to His plan. So why worry? Why get frustrated? We get these feelings because we are human. Living in the game, the grind, or whatever you call it can and will test your faith. Sometimes situations that we're placed in seem so complex that we lose hope. We stand in the kitchen, staring into empty cupboards while God has already laid out the feast in the dining room.

Michelle had been employed with her company for three years. She thought she was a good employee.   She stayed late to work on projects and got along with her coworkers. Her managers never complained about her performance. Her shift was short staffed, so Michelle stepped up to fill an empty spot without a title or extra pay. After six months of this routine, it was time to make it official and put it on paper. Of course, interviews would have to be help to follow company policy. Michelle understood and went through with the process. Her heart went through the floor when the job was given to someone outside of the section. Michelle was furious! How could her managers give the job that she had been holding down to someone with no experience? She went to them and demanded an explanation, but was given a lot of talk that made little sense. The argument that the selected person had a degree seemed almost false after countless mistakes were made that someone with a degree in this feild would not make. Michelle found herself in a situation that didn't make sense. Not being chosen for the job was an insult, but training someone to be your superior that had no skills? She couldn't understand why this was happening.

What would you do if you found yourself in a situation like this? Anger sometimes can cloud our view; it can be easy to lose sight. Michelle focused on the Lord's voice and applied for other jobs. She was blessed with a promotion to a different department. She tried for the silver, but ended up with the gold. By refusing to stay down and trusting God, she was given an opportunity greater than the one she originally set out for.

When things don't go our way, we can worry or we can trust that God already has something better waiting for us. Sometimes I forget that, but whenever I think of Michelle I will remember.
